Come Learn to Swim at the Becker Community Center

Swim Lesson Levels & Costs
IPAP: PARENT /CHILD AQUATICS
Designed for children 6 months to 5 years of age. The program builds swimming readiness by emphasizing fun in the water. Parents and children participate in guided practice sessions that help children learn elementary skills, including water entry, bubble blowing, front kicking, back floating, underwater exploration and more. Once children are 3 years old and can perform skills without parental assistance, they may enter level preschool aquatics.
PRESCHOOL AQUATICS
Designed for children ages 3-5. The objective of preschool aquatics is to build on the basic aquatic skills learned in the Parent/Child class and give children further success with fundamental aquatic skills. Most skills performed at this level are preformed with assistance from the instructor. Children will continue to explore using simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back to gain more proficiency for future strokes. Students in the preschool class will learn to: enter and exit the water safely, bob with breath control, open eyes underwater, retreive submerged objects, float on front and back with support and glide to a vertical position, roll over from front to back and back to front with support, tread water using arm and leg actions with support, and demonstrate water safety.
LEVEL 1: INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS
Prerequisites: Participants must be a minimum of 5 years of age. Participants younger than 5 years old, must get approval from the BCC Aquatic Director before enrolling. The purpose of this level is to help students feel comfortable in the water. Students will learn basic water safety rules, blowing bubbles, floating on front and back, and submerging mouth, nose and eyes.
LEVEL 2: FUNDAMENTAL AQUATIC SKILLS
Prerequisites: Successful completion of level 1 course or skills. The purpose of this level is to give students success with fundamental skills. Skills include submerging entire head, bobbing, proper use of lifejackets, and swimming using a combined stroke on front and back.
LEVEL 3: STROKE DEVELOPMENT
Prerequisites: Successful completion of level 2 course or skills. The purpose of this level is to build on skills learned in level 2 by providing additional guided practice. Skills covered in this level include front and back crawl strokes, rotary breathing, and butterfly kick.
