SUPERVISORY POLICY

FAQ

Weather Cancellation Policy
In the event a weather watch or warning is issued in Sherburne or Wright County, cancellations and building closure will both be determined by Becker Community Center (BCC) staff.

If Becker School District cancels their regular classes, the BCC will:

  • Cancel all fitness classes
  • Cancel all group and private swimming lessons
  • Continue to offer adult swim (18+)
  • Continue to offer the Adventure Zone (unless otherwise noted, or in the unlikely event the BCC were to close per the Becker Parks and Recreation director’s decision)

If Becker School District has a delayed start, the BCC will:

  • Cancel all fitness classes starting before 10:15am
  • Cancel all group and private swimming lessons starting before 10:15am
  • Continue to offer adult swim (18+)
  • Continue to offer the Adventure Zone until the 9:40am school bus arrives at the BCC

If Becker School District has an unscheduled early release due to weather or other circumstances, the BCC will:

  • Cancel all fitness classes starting after 12pm
  • Cancel all group and private swimming lessons starting after 12pm
  • Continue to offer adult swim (18+)
  • Continue to offer the Adventure Zone until 6pm (unless otherwise noted, or in the unlikely event the BCC were to close per the Becker Parks and Recreation director’s decision)

If Becker School District cancels all evening activities, the decision to cancel BCC programs will be determined by staff. The BCC staff reserves the right to cancel programs due to inclement weather during nonschool days.

Please call (763) 200-4271 if you require additional information on BCC program cancellations.

Child Supervision Policy

Ages 12 & Up
Allowed to be in the building and the pool without parental supervision. If a child is misbehaving, the child’s parents will be contacted and their “no adult supervision” privileges will be revoked. Youth under the age of 18 are allowed in the pool area only while a lifeguard is present

Ages 8-11
Required to have an adult or responsible teen (see below) in the building, but may swim and play in the gymnasium unattended (as long as BCC staff believes they are behaving appropriately; see below).

Ages 5-7
Adult or responsible teen must be in the pool area or gymnasium with the child. If the parent is not in the water with the child while they are in the pool, the child may be restricted to the “zero depth area” per the lifeguard’s discretion.

Ages 4 & Under
Adult or responsible teen must be in the water with the child or in the gymnasium with the child at all times. If the parent prefers to remain out of the water during low-use periods in the pool area, they must get the lifeguard’s approval. If the lifeguard approves, the child must remain in the zero depth area and the parent must remain in the pool area.

Responsible Teen (Ages 13 & Up)
A responsible teen may supervise a child aged 11 or younger. If a lifeguard or member of the BCC staff notices that the teen is not taking their supervisory duty seriously, they may require an adult to supervise the child instead.

Misbehavior
If a child is misbehaving, the child’s parents will be contacted and their no adult supervision privileges may be revoked. If a responsible teen is supervising a child and is not taking their duty seriously, the BCC reserves the right to ask the responsible teen and the child to leave the building for the day. The privilege for a teen to supervise a child under the age of 11 may also be revoked.

The BCC staff reserves the authority to make decisions regarding proper adult supervision of children while in the building.

FAQ
1. Can I bring my own food into the community center?
You may bring outside food into our facility if you rent a room (i.e. birthday parties), provided the food remains in the rented space only. Only food and drink purchased from our concession stand or vending machines may be eaten in the lobby areas.
The BCC offers a full concession stand with candy, popcorn, pizza, pretzels, hot dogs, soda, cappuccino, coffee and much more!

2. Can I bring my own life jacket/floatation device to the community center pool?
Yes – but only if it is “Coast Guard approved.” The U.S. Coast Guard is the foremost authority of water safety, and the BCC defers to their authority. Water wings, inflatable suits, and other inflatable accessories that have not approved by the Coast Guard are prohibited in our pool. The BCC has Coast Guard approved life jackets available for our patrons to use on premises. Please see our life jacket policy located in the pool rules section of our pool supervision policy.

3. Can I ride down the waterslide with my child?
Yes – but only if your child is less than 42″ tall. Children less than 42″ tall may go down the waterslide with an adult or responsible teen (see above). Children 42″ tall or taller must ride alone.

4. Do you have lockers? How do I secure my belongings while at the community center?
Yes – the community center has lockers available. Our lockers cannot be secured without padlocks; you may purchase one onsite or bring one from home. If you choose to secure a locker with your own padlock, it must be removed when you exit our building.

The Becker Community Center is NOT responsible for lost or stolen items.

5. Does the community center participate in any insurance reimbursement programs?
Yes – the community center currently participates with:

  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota
  • Medica
  • PreferredOne
  • South Country Health Alliance
  • UCare

Because requirements and regulations may vary depending upon your insurance carrier, please contact the community center for more information.

6. Does the community center have an age requirement for unsupervised children?

Yes – only children 12 and older may be unsupervised at the community center. Please see our pool supervision policy for more information.
